The Central Okanagan Foundation is a public foundation and as a community foundation is dedicated to improving the life for residents in the Central Okanagan. They do this by pooling the charitable gifts of donors to create endowment funds and using the investment income to make grants. They also provide donors, who have made a significant donation to the Foundation, with the opportunity to set up named funds where the donors can advise the Foundation where the income from the named fund will be directed. The Gary Bennett Family Fund is such a fund.
As a community foundation, the Central Okanagan Foundation is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. As a tax-exempt public foundation, they are publicly accountable for the funds they manage and can provide tax receipts for gifts received.
